Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a very gentle modality that works with the craniosacral system - comprised of your head (or cranium), spine, and sacrum (a triangular-shaped bone that connects the spine to the hips). CST works with your bones, membranes, cerebrospinal fluid, and fascia, gently assisting your body to heal itself. CST also greatly influences your central nervous system, which oversees every organ and function in your body.

The CST therapist works with your cranial bones (housing and protecting your brain) and your vertebrae (housing and protecting your spinal cord). The CST therapist also works with your meninges - vital membranes that surround and protect your brain and spinal cord. Craniosacral therapy may also help your body to release areas of restriction in your fascia, which is connective tissue that surrounds, bundles, and connects every tissue and organ in your body. The goal is to restore the fascia into one continuous form; trauma, disease, poor biomechanics, or repetitive stress can cause your fascia to bunch up or pull your body into chronic, unhealthy patterns. While your body constantly fine-tunes and attempts to maintain good health, restrictive patterns can emerge over time. The craniosacral therapist facilitates self-healing by helping your body release any areas of restriction. CST encourages and allows your body to experience a deep level of relaxation, when it is most apt to heal.

CST is safe for everyone and can be effective in treating a wide range of disorders and dysfunction, including chronic and acute injury, systemic illnesses, as well as stress, anxiety, and depression.
